Poems in Praise is a series of poetry anthologies honoring a particular subject, place or group of people that should be uplifted up and celebrated. Praise means, ”to express a favorable judgment of : commend : to glorify especially by the attribution of perfections: an expression of approval, value and merit: the offering of grateful homage in words or song, as an act of worship.” Our desire in creating this series of books is both to glorify and pay homage to people and places that have made a major contribution to the lives of other human beings. Our inclination is that with this poetic spotlight, readers will be filled with appreciation, and gain a greater sense of value for these subjects, places, and people.
This collection celebrates the power and significance of libraries, and the wonderful librarians who safeguard these sacred community spaces. Libraries attests to the resilience of the human spirit, and continue to be an essential resource to all who have the courage to enter its doors. In addition to the poems written in dedication to all libraries, readers will also find poems written in praise of The Sims Library of Poetry. The grand opening of this library in particular, inspired the curation of this book. May these poems uplift every human soul who has given service to a library, and may these words echo the deep love and appreciation we all feel for these treasure troves of books.
